- Mesh size: For effective protection against moles and voles, you should opt for tight mesh (6.3 mm or 12 mm) that prevents these animals from squeezing through.
- Installation depth: For optimal protection, the chain-link fence should be buried at least 30 cm deep in the ground, according to the recommendations of many experts and manufacturers.
- Fence size: Make sure you choose a fence that is large enough to cover the entire area you want to protect.
How to install your chain-link fence
Installing a mole barrier fence is a crucial step in protecting your garden. It not only provides an effective barrier against pests, but also contributes to the health and longevity of your plants. Here is a simple guide to help you:
- Preparing the ground: Clear the area of stones and debris. Dig a trench around the area to be protected, 30–50 cm deep, in line with the recommendations of manufacturers and gardening experts.
- Placing the wire mesh fence: Unroll the mesh into the trench. Make sure the mole barrier fence protrudes slightly above ground level so that moles cannot climb over it.
- Securing the mesh: Use ground pegs to fix the mole barrier fence in place. Ensure it is pulled tight and that there are no loose sections through which moles could squeeze.
- Backfilling the trench: Cover the mole mesh with soil and press it down firmly to eliminate air pockets.
